Clean Green Renewable Energy
Innovative Cash Generator For Local Good Causes
The Nantwich Mill Hydro-electric project will turn clean and green energy into a stream of community funding for the benefit of local people.
The generation box will be just 3 metres square, constructed in the local style with local materials. Project partners include Greenspaces South Cheshire, dedicated to improving the Weaver Valley for wildlife and people, and South Cheshire Friends of the Earth.
We need hundreds of people and local companies to pledge their backing for the project – to become shareholders committing seed-corn funding that will payback benefits for the local community and the environment year after year.
Nantwich Mill Hydro Electric Generation Company is a not for profit company. Of the community for the community.
The six partners are all local Nantwich people with a long standing commitment to community service and environmental improvement.
This a community project for the benefit of the community.
The land is owned by Cheshire East Council and they will give us permission to go ahead if we can demonstrate that we have the funding in place to make it happen.
We need £220,000 to get the project through the planning system, the turbine built and everything else through to switching on the turbine and making community profits.
So in the long run we need hundreds of people and local companies to pledge their backing for the project – to become shareholders committing seed-corn funding that will payback benefits for the local community and the environment year after year to come.
We don't want you money now we just need your pledge. Once we have convinced the council we will come back to you by emailto ask yu to commit to your shareholding
Action Now - Please help put pressure on the council please write to the leader of the council and cabinet telling them this is a great idea and you want them to release the land and give the project their backing. Link to the council here
“This is a really good, practical scheme – the sort of project that needs to become second nature in any Local Climate Action Plan.”

“Nantwich Hydro Mill is a great example of the type of project we at Good Energy have been proud to support through the years — a local group coming together to harness a natural resource to generate clean, renewable energy, and using the project’s proceeds to benefit the community and increase environmental awareness. We look forward to hearing news of the project progressing, and welcoming Nantwich Hydro Mill to the growing community of more than 1,400 local, renewable generators which we support.”
"I believe it to be a technically sound scheme, similar to numerous Archimedes Screw schemes around the UK. Other councils are actively promoting renewable energy schemes of this sort - Bedford has had just such a scheme for several years."
